The Hortus Botanicus Amsterdam is an autonomous, independent foundation and owner of the land and buildings, most of which are monumental. We generate our income from revenues from the shop, café and the entrance fees, or through our congress facilities, donations from individuals and corporate sponsorship. Since its independence in 1987, the Hortus has an active Friends Association with over 8,000 members. The proceeds of the annual memberships are an important contribution to our organisation.
The Stichting Hortus Botanicus Amsterdam has about 35 employees, working in the departments garden, office and café/congress facilities. We are also supported by an indispensable pool of approximately 80 volunteers who contribute to the organisation by helping out in education, gardening, tours, at the store, and entrance gate.
