In our desert greenhouse, you can find a flowering Agave. The Butterfly agave (Agave potatorum) started growing a large stem in September of this year. Everyday, the stem grew higher and started to develop flower buds. As of November 23rd, the flowers FINALLY started to open up.
First, the lower flower buds open up, this process will go on upward until all buds are open. This will take about 2-3 weeks. Unfortutantely, this flowering process also stands for a dramatic end of the plant’s life. After flowering, the Agave dies. This specimen reached about forty years of age.
