The Climate Greenhouse is a real eye-catcher in the garden. The greenhouse was built in 1993 and is now in urgent need of renovation, and the Hortus takes this opportunity to create a fully sustainable greenhouse with an important new educational purpose.
In 2025, the large greenhouse on the Nieuwe Herengracht will become the first sustainable, gas-free public greenhouse in the Netherlands, and the only place that underlines the importance of plant biodiversity and its relationship to climate. Plants and landscapes in three different biotopes will allow visitors to experience how forms and species develop under different world climates.
For this extensive renovation, the greenhouse will close on February 26, 2024, and will reopen again in June 2025. The rest of the garden and greenhouses will remain open during this period.
