Autumn in the Hortus

Autumn in the Hortus: colours everywhere

Slowly but surely autumn is settling in. The light changes and against grey skies the trees in the garden turn red and yellow. This season we look at ‘Plants in media’; many writers, artists and other creatives get their inspiration from nature. Time to put them in the spotlight! Register for one of our activities and enjoy the Hortus this magnificent season.

our autumn programme

The Hortus organizes various activities focussing on the theme ‘Plants in Media’. Visit the Roots nature photo exhibition in our garden, which can be seen from October 22. Or take part in a special guided tour (Dutch only). There is also plenty to do in the garden for smaller visitors, such as the autumn leaf treasure hunt. Also, our garden is beautifully lit with special light installations! Keep an eye on our activities page for more information and tickets.

visit our cafe

The cafe and our terrace are open every day from 10:00 to 17:00. From the terrace you can enjoy a hot chocolate, whilst enjoying the colourful autumn trees. Autumn is the season of harvest: many cabbages, carrots, leeks, mushrooms, pears and pumpkin characterize the menu. The kitchen makes delicious hot, spicy dishes from all these lovely ingredients! The Hortuscafé serves hot and cold drinks, sandwiches, soup and cakes, among other things. It is also possible to order to-go and take a coffee or tea with you on the walk through the garden.

View our autumn menu here.

Please note: you also need an entrance ticket for the Hortus to visit the café and terrace.
