Join us at the Climate Festival in the Hortus! A whole weekend full of creative workshops, discussions, space for experiencing nature and inspiring talks by young changemakers about biodiversity, nature conservation and climate action. And most importantly: more than enough possibilities to discover what YOU can do for the climate and in finding a connection with nature.
All this in the green surroundings of the botanical garden! Take a look at the full programme below.
Programme Saturday August 30
Hooray – the first day of a brand new Climate Festival! What can you expect?
We kick off with a talk by climate justice activist Chautuileo Tranamil: she’ll talk about indigenous perspectives on nature and what we can learn from them. Milieudefensie will give a workshop on the phenomenon of “climate stress” (and how to turn those negative feelings into action!) and in the afternoon you can join a real biodiversity bingo. UN youth representatives Sustainable Development Sarah and Tommy are bringing the voice of young people to the climate summit: they will talk about the link between young people, climate change and nature at the Climate Festival. And they are curious to hear your ideas!
Fancy something active? With Recycle Valley’s neighbourhood clean-up, you go into the neighbourhood to – yes – pick up litter, because plants and plastic are not a good combo. Or go and make bee hotels with beekeeper Maikel Wiet. And how about a wild plant picking tour through the neighbourhood, guided by Eigen Krachtvoer?
This and much more on Climate Festival Saturday!
The full programme including a timetable will appear here soon.
Programme Sunday 31 augustus
Day two of the Climate Festival has another varied programme in store for you.
Nicole Zonderhuis opens the day with a talk about our ancestors’ experience of nature and how we can learn to listen to nature. And does nature actually have rights? Jessica den Outer, writer and Master in International Environmental Law, talks about this topic. Beekeeper Maikel Wiet talks about the importance of the bee (did you know that no less than 75% of our food crops depend on pollinators like the bee?!) and Milieudefensie updates you on the concept of “climate justice”.
Roll up your sleeves and learn how to make your own tincture or go for a seed bomb making workshop, because did you know that spreading native plants around the city contributes to a healthier ecosystem? Walk along on one of the guided tours through the Hortus’ new Climate House or enjoy a delicious (non-alcoholic) cocktail on our terrace: there is undoubtedly plenty to talk about together!
The full programme including a timetable will appear here soon.
